about
Daniella Ruffino is an artist based in Naarm (Melbourne). Her work explores the tensions between discard, value, materiality and form. Ruffino’s process based and research driven practice draws from a wide range of influences including history and origins of materials, grassroots technology, vernacular architecture, ecology, craftsmanship, and physical labor. Ruffino’s work involves experimenting with material properties and challenging traditional approaches in the construction industry.
In 2021, Ruffino co-founded the art collective Soft Meadow, which is currently located at Collingwood Yards. The collective engages in regular collaborations with artists, urban ecologists, and landscape architects. Their projects extend beyond the confines of the art world to involve the community in exploring plants and ecosystems that can thrive in urban settings and development sites.
Ruffino has exhibited her artwork in Melbourne (Naarm), Sydney (Djubuguli/Cadi), and Dunedin, New Zealand (Aotearoa). Her work has also found a place in private collections both locally and internationally. Ruffino completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts (Sculpture) at the Victorian College of the Arts, University of Melbourne.
